NYU Otologist Erich Voigt explains why it's unhealthy to hold in a sneeze. When you sneeze, you are expelling germs and particles from your nose with a large amount of pressure. If you stop yourself from doing that, all the pressure goes back into your head and can cause damage to your eardrums.
